If you've got any type of media in your home, be it a television, a computer, or a radio, chances are good that you have heard of global warming. Lately, there has been a good deal of discussion about the topic in the press. Many different parties have different opinions on the subject, but regardless of your opinion it's something that potentialy effects everyone of us. After all, so much is at stake for our childrens future. You can help our planet in the fight against global warming in uncomplicated ways, that far from costing you money will actualy save you a significant sum. Often, too much focus is placed on energy efficient vehicles and appliances. There are certainly ways you can help which will not be as expensive. Your home is the key to helping you combat global warming. For example, to many people allow their electrical appliances to keep running even when they are not in use, it makes sense that if something is not being used you should turn it off. Limiting your electricity consumption is a great way to not only help prevent future environmental problems, but it can also reduce the impact on your wallet too! Another way you can help the environment is by making sure your thermostat is not turned up too high, instead think about putting on a sweater instead. Turning down your thermostat even a few degrees can help reduce the toxic emissions that your home produces. Another easy way to help our planet is to simply replace your old light bulbs when they expire with energy efficient ones instead. Additionaly, this simple step is also another money saving way you can help out the environment. A typical energy efficient bulb can operate for several years, making them last much longer than traditional light bulbs. It might take some price shopping efforts, but the price of these energy efficient bulbs continues to fall as they become more popular. Even if you rent your home, there are still ways that you can work to reduce your carbon footprint. If you feel cold air comeing into your home when it shouldn't, speak to your landlord about making repairs and inproving the insulation. If the water heater is old or the hot water tank is not insulated properly bring this to your landlords attention too. When it comes to transportation buying a new hybrid or energy efficient car is not necessary in order to change your modes of travel for the better. When you drive, how often and do you really need to? If you can get by without using your car consider walking, carpooling or using public transport. By not driving three or four times a week, you can have a tremendous impact on your contribution to global warming.
