Fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide. War in the Middle East. These terms have become so ingrained in the American psyche as to become nearly synonymous with the fabric of America herself. The economy built around the concept of electricity and power is unfathomable, on a scale so complex as to be indecipherable to a commoner like myself. It would be naive to expect a world without cars bolting about, trucks loaded with cargo, jetliners sailing through the air. To be American is to be a Consumer, to be free to pursue happiness, liberty and a Starbuck's cup of coffee at every highway exit. So are we destined to melt the ice caps for an ice capp? Luckily, Ingenuity is another term in our nation's fabric. And our inventors and entrepreneurs and legislators are leading the way toward a much greener cleaner future. You can actually earn money by becoming a self-sufficient micro-power company by installing solar panels on your home or business. Called "Net Metering," the utility company will actually buy back unused or excess power that your individual home system produces 24 hours a day. Instead of rolling forward, your power meter actually rolls back the other way! Along with California Energy Commission and federal tax rebates and amortization of the initial costs, solar power panels are like getting paid by the sun. Talk about a sunny day! Not only that, the resale value of properties with solar panel grids are much higher than those without. In California, there is the Million Solar Roofs Initiative that has the goal of installing one million solar electric systems in homes in the next ten years. The Initiative requires home developers to offer solar systems as an option on all homes by 2011. Colorado and New Jersey both have new laws that will push Renewable Energy to the front of the line within the decade, and the rest of the states are sure to follow soon. If we band together, we can harness the sun like a multimillion man army, and defeat the enemy of our reliance on foreign sources of fossil fuels. Rather than being the leaders in polluting the world, we owe it to our grandchildren and to people everywhere in finding and implementing all the alternative energy fuels as possible. With China, India and the rest of the world moving toward a combustible-engine driven economy at breakneck speed, the costs of energy will continue to skyrocket as competition for scarce resources pushes civil societies to the breaking point. Why sit passively and watch the world cave in around us? With wind, water and the sun, we can take care of a significant portion of our energy needs and end our reliance on foreign sources of oil. We are smart enough to know better and brave enough to act. The time is now. They say money doesn't grow on trees, but it does fall from the sky. Partner with the sun and transform your carbon footprint into cold hard cash. Net metering, a revenue stream courtesy of Mother Nature. Become a Solar Power Micro-broker and impress all your Micro-brewing friends. You can take Solar to the bank, even on a rainy day!
